Getting Older....but we still need to look Timeless and Cool?

There is no getting around it,  I am getting older ....and now have to wear reading glasses.  I have fought it and continue the fight year by year.... By day I wear one contact lens for reading and at night I have to wear reading glasses....ughh!  The last straw for me and expensive prescription glasses was when I fell a sleep on a plane and they took them away with my food tray.....I was forever loosing them.  Now check this out Eyebobs!  Great fashionable readers that do not cost a small fortune!  Most pairs 65 bucks.... and you look like a million! I now have back-ups!!!!  We must grow old gracefully but more important fashionably.

Here is a frightening fact I took off their home page..... I better buy some more, there might not be any left!

Why Eyebobs?

Every 8 seconds someone turns 40. This means 1.5 million people are having birthdays and if they don’t already wear reading glasses, they soon will be (97% by the time they are 50).

few of my favorite styles...  "arch rival"

"fishbowl"

"professor"

and the best......they also do sunglasses!!!!

"total wit sunglasses"

Fashion's Night Out 2010....Again it will be Timeless Cool

Just in case you missed last years... you shouldn't miss this years, especially for those of us you love retail!!!

Fashion's Night Out.... taken from their Facebook  Page

ABOUT FASHION’S NIGHT OUT:Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) is an unprecedented global initiative created to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy, and put the fun back in shopping. For one night last September, in New York City and twelve other cities around the world, designers, celebrities, models, and fashion editors staged exciting, one-of-a-kind events in stores open after-hours to the public. Shoppers were able to see Sarah Jessica Parker singing standards with Oscar de la Renta, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen tending bar, as well as Michael Kors, Justin Timberlake, Kate Hudson, Rihanna and Gwen Stefani (just to name a few) at various stores throughout NYC supporting the industry. Retailers saw a surge of new shoppers and increased sales, while customers relished the street-party atmosphere.

FASHION’S NIGHT OUT 2010:FNO will return to New York City and launch in cities nationwide this year on Friday, September 10, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Last year, in NYC alone, more than 800 participating stores across the five boroughs feted thousands of shoppers who supported the fashion and retail industries—we expect this year’s event to be even bigger and better, with a lot of fun surprises!

FASHION’S NIGHT OUT ON A GLOBAL LEVEL: In the United States, FNO is a collaboration between American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York. Around the world, countries led by at least fifteen international Vogueeditions, will once again participate in the festivities. Nations including Australia, Britain, China, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, and Turkey, each country will tailor its Fashion’s Night Out celebration to appeal to its unique retail environment.

CHARITABLE ENDEAVORS: A percentage of the sales from the Fashion’s Night Out T-shirt will be donated to the NYC AIDS Fund. Be sure to check back in August for retailer information and locations.

CBS SPECIAL: The making of Fashion’s Night Out will be the subject of an hour-long, prime-time special on CBS, Tuesday, September 14, at 10 p.m. EST. Cameras will follow celebrities, designers, editors, and retailers as they prepare for year two of FNO, taking viewers behind the scenes during months of intense planning and tracking the night itself as it unfolds across the globe. This special will also look beyond the glamour to the real-life implications at stake, focusing on the individuals working in all parts of the industry, from salespeople to design staff, for whom the vibrancy of the fashion business is a question of economic survival. You won’t want to miss it!

STAY IN THE KNOW: Throughout the months leading up to the big night, you can check back for updates on the FNO website and on FNO’s Twitter feed by following @fnonyc.

What's New for the Table...Timeless Cool

I love all things bamboo. I have been obsessed with it for years...ahead of my time for the most part, since it is very much an item in the world of design today. Coming this fall is Classic Bamboo from Juliska. I took some pictures of it recently at a trade show. I can't wait to play and see all the things that it will mix and match with!  My love of bamboo continues....so so Timeless and Cool

Pencil Tip Micro Sculptures ....WOW Timeless Cool!

Earlier this week I read an article in the New York Daily News about an artist, Dalton Ghetti who was born in Brazil and now resides in Connecticut.  I was in awe.... He creates minature sculptures out of the tips of pencils.  Dalton works as a carpenter and carves in his free time. One of the projects he is presently working on is slowly carving a tiny, graphite tear for every 9/11 victim, finishing one each morning before he goes to work, and estimates it will take him 10 years to finish and display them together.

You can view his work at the New Britain Museum of American Art: "Meticulous Masterpieces: Contemporary Art" by Dalton Ghetti through August 29th.

Read more about this intriguing artist in this weeks  New York Daily News .

Timeless Cool.... Elsa Peretti

"Style is to be simple" says one of my favorite designer Elsa Peretti...... Her naturalistic approach to design can be seen in timeless and very cool pieces of jewelry and designs for the home.  Aside from all the amazing pieces of jewelry, that I adore...I am totally in love her sterling flatware pattern Padova, which is named after the Italian village where it was manufactured.  I have owned it for more than 20 years and still love using it daily. It has become even more beautiful with age and use.  I was told that this is flatware she uses in her home in Tuscany where it was hung on pegs on the wall in her kitchen.  It hangs on a wooden rack in my kitchen which makes me dream of being in a Tuscan kitchen cooking away!

If you share in my fascination check out her official blog.....

Timeless Cool.... Alessi

I am a big fan of Alessi...... For those of you who are not familar with the brand, it is a family owned Italian Company founded in 1921 that started as a metalworks factory, manufacturing copper, brass, and nickel plated tableware.  Grandson Alberto Alessi, who always wanted to be an architect, did the next best thing, joined the family business and hired some of the best know artists and architects, Salvador Dali, Michael Graves, Aldo Rossi and Philippe Stark to name a few, and turned household items into work of art, combining function and design with a bit of modern whimsey.

Here are a few photo's from my home.   Using items where least expected.....

The Alessi Clock (which by the way is fabulous) is hung on the side of my kitchen island,
to remind my very small dog (Sherman) when it is time for lunch....

Sherman enjoys his meals served in a  CAT bowl...makes you look twice!

Here are some other great products if Alessi:
