Boston, Good Friends and the Red Sox ...Timeless Cool

I feel like I have not been home in months and truth be told, I haven't. LA, Atlanta , Boston, NYC... all fun and exciting but I am happy to be home. I love my house and have missed it but when the opportunity arises to visit a great city, you must take it and run...

I wanted to share with you my recent trip to Boston, although it was the hottest day of the whole year...and perhaps in the last 10 years, it was a great day! We had dear friends staying with us from Bordeaux and it was great fun taking them for the first time to a city we love. Starting with lobster rolls at Skip Jacks on Bolyston Street, a Duck Boat Tour of the city, a Red Sox Game, lots of baseball food, and a bicycle cab ride back to the car... it was perfect even in the 100 degree heat. Is was wonderful to be with a dear friend that we have not seen in 20 years and meet her boys. Sandrine, Maxime and Jules we hope you had as much fun as we did!

Pizza...always Timeless Cool

I do not own a pizza stone, not yet... if I weren't so tired from traveling I would be out on the hunt for a great pizza stone right now rather than writing tonight. I just had this pizza (actually it was one of 4) this week in Atlanta at Ecco. All four were excellent but the one the lingers is the pecorino, riccotta, arugula with preserved lemon. I have never tasted anything quite like this. I tend to stick to the tried and true flavors of a pizza. I am not someone who likes my pizza with unusual items but this was amazing and it was the preserved lemons that gave it a summer zing. Combined with the cheese and my favorite arugula, it was to die for! It was a great restaurant, everything was delicious, lots of fun to share, our server did not rush us, we ordered as we went along until we were filled to the brim!

Let me know if any of you have any thoughts on pizza stones and which is the best. It is on my to do list this weekend!

The Well Dressed Table...Timeless Cool

Did you ever sit down at table that was so attractive that it made whatever was being served fabulous? You can serve take-out... put it on a beautiful plate, add a great napkin and placemat and the meal transforms...a little candle light will put it right over the edge!

Here are some of my favorite "new" for the fall. Lots of great color, and of course a little of gold and silver for the holiday! My photos are disappointing as far as the true colors, the chocolate brown is really a beautiful deep deep aubergine.

At the Mart this weekend we stumbled upon (which I had wanted to attend but forgot) designer Vincent Wolf's lecture on his new book. We were fortunate to catch part of his lecture and get signed copies of his new book "Lifting the Curtain on Design". Vincent, who is a renowned Cuban-American designer and self taught photographer, advice is Simplify, bring the space down to its essence and bones... Connect, your experiences and passions to the space... Expand, think of the space as having a long life, take what you like from today, yesterday and tomorrow. I am a fan of his neutral interiors and interesting tablescapes.

Christmas in July? Timeless Cool

The team is in Atlanta looking for things that catch our eye and stops us in our tracks. Do you know how hard it is to focus on Christmas in July? It was even harder last January, when most of holiday merchandise is purchased for the coming year. Yesterday we found some very cool retro trees! Champagne Silver!! I was never one for those aluminum looking trees back in my day but these are stunning!

I am still stuck on eating, food and yes...the quirky and artful side of life....another new dinnerware pattern or could be art installation for your favorite wall. By another great Italian company, Richard Ginori, Metroquadro has the design on the back of the plates ... talk about a conversation piece (s). What fun... a dinner party and all the courses served on the back of the plates?

Timeless Cool....Dempsey and Carroll Stationary Engravers

Although I have not written much about this subject I am a lover of beautiful paper and the luxury products made with it. Be it stationary, invitations, or just a great business card it is all about how it feels... texture, thickness, weight....its substance. I love old established stationary companies such as Dempsey and Carroll, full of history and still using the hand-engraving techniques to create beautiful products. Note writing is becoming a lost art, being replaced with quick emails. As technical savvy as I am, I still cherish a beautiful piece of paper with the hand writing of those near and dear. Here are a few of my favorites...and as you can see from the size they do not require a lengthy message, just a sweet little note from the heart.

A Day Walking the Streets of Milan ...Timeless Cool

Our last day in Milan was spent exploring. First stop a local flea market and then walking for hours, no game plan just taking it all in. Expierencing the sights, sounds and all its' people of the city streets was the perfect end to a fantastic trip. Come walk the city and let us share...not your local tourist stops or the fabulous fashion district, but a typical neighborhood.

As we reach our hotel you will see some of the famous sights that Milan is known for...and yes the Duomo's renovation is almost completed!! It was a completely different shade of grey this trip and it looks more amazing than I had remembered.
