Timeless Cool's Continuing Love of Sable Island....and their Wild Horses

Over the last few years I have been following the Wild Horses of Sable Island. My interest was sparked a few years back by the amazing photographs by Roberto Dutesco. Watch these few clips and I am sure you can see why my fascination continues with the horses and the island....just a sliver of wind swept sand.

Designer Nga Waiata....Timeless Cool

On one of my recent trips I came across jewelry designer Nga Waiata while browsing through the jewelry department at Barney's. I immediately fell in love with her fabulous chunky rings made of crystals and recycled wood. Not only are they great looking but did you know: crystals are said to have healing properties as well as the ability to transform an imbalanced energy field? When you feel stressed, the crystal can balance your energies and revitalize you. Check out the designers website for more information as to what ring would be perfect for you!

fluorite rings:
said to bring clarity, on every level identifying truth behind illusion...you can tell when someone is lying to you. Very good for centering, calming and balancing. If you are confused this is the crystal for you!

Croque-Monsieur...Timeless Cool

Here is the recipe I promised a few posts back. It is from the New York Times, which I found to be the best. I personally tested it and added a few things. First I spread some French mustard (not much) on the bread before topping with the additional ingredients and then topped it off with a fried egg.
Served with a crisp green salad with simple dressing, it made a delicious hearty "French Supper".

Croque-Monsieur

Published: June 25, 2008

Adapted from Bar Boulud

Time: 40 minutes

FOR THE BéCHAMEL SAUCE:

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

3 cups whole milk

Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

Salt and freshly ground white pepper

For the sandwiches:

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

8 slices high-quality Pullman loaf bread, sliced 1/3- to 1/2-inch thick

12 ounces thickly sliced Jambon de Paris (high-quality wet-cured ham)

10 ounces Gruyère cheese, coarsely grated.

1. For the béchamel: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt butter and whisk in the flour until blended but not colored. Gradually whisk in the milk and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 10 minutes. Season to taste with nutmeg, salt and pepper. Set aside. (May be made up to 24 hours ahead of time and stored, refrigerated, with a layer of plastic wrap placed directly on surface of sauce; gently reheat before serving.)

2. For the sandwiches: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and brush with melted butter. On a work surface, place bread slices in a single layer and spread each one evenly to the edges with béchamel; all the béchamel may not be needed. Divide ham among four of the slices, trimming it if necessary so it is within 1/4 inch of edges. Top all eight slices with equal amounts of cheese, spreading it evenly to within 1/4 inch of edges.

3. Place four bread slices with béchamel and cheese, cheese side up, on top of slices layered with ham. Transfer sandwiches, cheese side up, onto sheet pan. Bake until grated cheese topping is melted and golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Serve immediately.

Yield: 4 servings.

The Privet House ...Timeless Cool

What makes a great shopping experience for you? For me, a shop that has me in awe from the moment I walk through the door. It is not often I come across a place like this, but when I do... it is a real treat. I do admit I am a tough critic, not looking for the most luxurious or expensive, I seek style, a little of the unexpected, great textures, and lots of creativity. The Privet House, located in picturesque Warren Ct is just that. A small charming shop with an eclectic mix of product, everything arranged with a sense of great style, I could have spent hours browsing in this quaint little shop, definitely worth a visit in my book...
Do buy something you will love the fabulous shopping bags!

A Timeless Cool Home

I have found that these lingering cold days of March has me deprived of all my creative juices. To remedy this deficiency, I took a trip to the 7th floor of Bergdorf Goodman in NYC. My jaunt through the well displayed rooms was just what the doctor ordered. Things did catch my eye, I did stop in my tracks, and it made me rekindle a lost love...my home (you all know what it is like after a long winter). Many of my favorite things I had seen before, but their creative displays gave them new life and confirmed it is time to do some spring accessory cleaning and make our home ready for the new season. Spring is really coming.... I can feel that beautiful spring green color getting ready to make an appearance.

Great scented candles and lucite boxes with fabulous stones

Ugg Australia to Launch Luxe Collection ....Timeless Cool

This fall Ugg Australia is expanding beyond their signature shearling boot with the launch of the “rugged luxury” line Ugg Collection. They will be introducing a new line of handbags and footwear sourced in Italy....I am sure it will only add to their continued success. On one of my trips to NYC I was intrigued with the with long lines outside their new store on Madison Avenue. You would think they were giving the boots away... Here is a sneak peek at one of the hand bags. A good boot never dies...

William Yeoward....Timeless Cool Style

I came across this article William the Conquerer last week on the website fetch and thought I would share it with you. It brought back wonderful memories of the first time that I met William, trips to his shop in London, visiting his Cotswold country house (see earlier posts for my most memorable 4th of July picnic).

Years back I fondly remember receiving a crystal champagne flute with an invitation to come and preview his line during market week in New York City. It was definitely a "Things that catch my eye, make me stop in my tracks and I 'd love to own" moment. It was by far one of the prettiest champagne flutes I had ever seen. Now many years and flutes later, I still love and am in awe of William's timeless and very cool style.

Here are some of the new introductions for this spring. I know my passion for all things amethyst started with visits to William's Shop on Kings Road. It has become a new neutral for me.

Hurricane...can you imagine one of these at each end of your table

What do you consider Timeless Cool?

What pieces do you consider timeless and yet still cool? I, of course, am always putting everything to the Timeless Cool test. What pieces and designers are or will be a part of history and stand the test of time.

Here are some things that I consider Timeless and still very Cool no matter what year they were purchased:

Hermes Ties...the colors might change, the width a little here and there, they are timeless!

Penny Loafers...can find a pair in your closet?

Gucci Loafers...I think my husband still owns a pair from his teens, could that be?

Cashmere Cardigan...You can never tell if it is new or just one of those items that you keep pulling out of your closet year after year... I love it.

An Hermes Bag...Oh how I wish I had one laying around in the back of my closet! This is one of those items that could easily be put in your will.

Diamond Studs...size does not matter always perfect.
