Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company....Timeless Cool

Who is Jim Thompson?

Jim Thompson was perhaps 'the best known foreigner in Bangkok, and possibly in Southeast Asia'.

In the twenty years before his ill-fated holiday in Malaysia, he had accomplished more than most men in a full life. He had built a major industry in a remote and little known country whose language he could not speak; he had become an authority on an art that, previously, he scarcely knew existed and had assembled a collection that attracted scholars from all over the world; he had built a home that was a work of art in itself and one of the landmarks of Bangkok; and, in the process of doing all this, he had become a sort of landmark himself, a personality so widely known in his adopted homeland that a letter addressed simply 'Jim Thompson, Bangkok' found its way to him in a city of three and a half million people.

Excerpt from 'Jim Thompson - The Legendary American in Thailand', by William Warren.

Read more about Jim Thompson -Wikipedia and find out about his ill fated holiday.

His shops and the designs still thrive throughout Asia. The shop windows are full of vibrant colors and amazing designs all on scrumptious fabric. Here are some photos I took during my last visit and one of their ads...

Ivanka Trump Collection...Timeless Cool

While in NYC last May I was stopped in my tracks on Madison Avenue by a baby stroller parking lot, it was bumper to bumper. This was in front of Ivanka Trumps' Jewelry Store and it prompted me to write a post Mother's Love Jewelry...Timeless Cool Ivanka Trump Collection .

I do have to admit when I had first learned of the collection, long before seeing the parking lot, I was skeptical...oh another celebrity jewelry designer... big deal. But much to my surprise, I was very wrong. It is a fantastic collection... very Timeless Cool, a kindred spirit, pieces from one of my favorite periods of time, tweaked just enough to make it modern. I recently had the pleasure of learning even more about the company and the collection. Ivanka's incredible style and attention to detail is evident throughout the collection.

Here are just a few of my favorite pieces, all I would love to own.

Anatara Phuket...A Timeless Cool Resort

While visiting Hong Kong we took a few days to give the new parents a break and headed to Thailand. Although there was terrible flooding in the Bangkok, we headed south to Phuket where it remained sunny and beautiful. The Anatara Resort , thank you Evelyn and Matthew for the recommendation, it fabulous... our own gorgeous villa with pool with impeccable friendly service throughout the resort. What more could you ask for quiet, peaceful, and very relaxing with an amazing spa. As you will see in the photos, the beach was picture perfect but due to the large rough waves we were advised to stay out of the water. Not a problem since we rarely left our beautiful little villa except to eat. A few more days would have been perfect, I was just getting the hang of relaxing, which does not come naturally. Phuket is relatively a quick flight from Hong Kong (3 hours)...compared to the flight from the US to Hong Kong it was a piece of cake! I would highly recommend a visit to this little piece of heaven and I look forward to returning

Without Power...NOT Timeless Cool

For those of you wondering has happen to me...I have been without power, cell, and telephone due to the freak storm that hit the northeast 7 days ago. It is hard to believe that in 2011 so many can be without power for so long.
